Sharks selected for Aus Squads

In what has been a rather busy month for athletes involved in the Basketball Victoria and Basketball Australia Pathways, the Southern Peninsula Basketball Association are delighted to share that four of our athletes have been selected into Australian Squads ahead of various tournaments.

On May 3-5, Basketball Australia hosted 22 boys and 22 girls at the Centre Of Excellence in Canberra.  This camp was the start of the preparation for the 2019 FIBA ASIA U16 Championships which will be held later in 2019 and will hopefully lead to qualifying for the 2020 FIBA U17 World Cup.  Emirson Devenie and Paige Price were both selected to this squad.

In addition to the Basketball Australia FIBA ASIA U16 squads, the squads for the 2019 FIBA U17 Oceania Championships has also been announced.  The camp will be held from June 21-23 where teams will be selected to compete in New Caledonia in August of this year.  These are the first steps towards qualifying for the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup.  Paige Price has been selected to this squad in addition to the U16 Squad and is joined by fellow Southern Peninsula team mate, Olivia Pollerd.

Finally, after a recent selection camp, the final 17 players have been announced for the 2019 Australian Gems, the Basketball Australia U19 Women’s team.  Their final selection camp will be hosted by the Centre Of Excellence between May 30 and June 2 with the selected team traveling to the FIBA U19 World Cup in Bangkok, Thailand in July.  Jaz Shelley has continued her successful junior career in Green and Gold, again being named as a member of the Gems.

It is unprecedented for us to have four athletes being a part of National Team selections at the same time.  The initial selections are a testament to the work that each athlete puts into their game, not just during their structured training hours, but also in their additional workouts, preparation, recovery and attention to detail in everything they do.  The Southern Peninsula Basketball Association extends our biggest congratulations to Emrison, Paige, Olivia and Jaz and wish them the best of luck.
